D2 Computing Ltd - So how much does a website cost?

This is normally the first question we are asked by prospective clients "Hi, i'm looking to have a website built for my company, how much does one cost?".

Its an understandable question, the majority of people have limited knowledge and experience of what is involved the web design process and just basically want a ballpark figure, is this thing likely to cost £50 or £50000?

Its nigh on impossible to answer straight off without getting a few details about your requirements but we'll try below to give you a few pointers about how much a site costs.

The more money you put into a site, the more site you'll get for your money but a good quality site can be had for very little outlay in relative terms.

Questions to ask yourself before contacting us for a quote are:

How many pages do you need? The majority of small sites are basically a brochure to advertise the company. They comprise around 7-8 pages and are just static HTML marketing content - the same is this site you are looking at basically! The only content requiring scripting is the ability to send email via the 'contact us' page. These are the cheapest (and most requested) type of site. For this type of site you are looking at around £250 and upwards. Additional pages will range from £30 to £100 depending on content requirements. We can do a single page company advertising site for as little as £175 + £15/year hosting costs - great value when you consider that page is working for you 24/7!
Do you need any dynamic content? When i say dynamic content, this is basically any feature where the viewer can interact with the site for example, an online quote system where the user is asked questions and receives a price based on their choices or a searchable database or your product range. Any dynamic content will raise the price and must be quoted on a per-request basis.
Do you wish to sell online? If you wish to start selling goods online and have your own product database and storefront then, again, this will raise the price over a static site. Our eCommerce packages range from £300-£3000 as we develop our own in-house applications.
Do you already have the images/text you wish to include? If you can supply the bulk of the imagery and text copy yourself then the price will be reduced accordingly. Graphic design and article writing obviously adds to the price.

Along with the cost of actually building the site, you also need to factor in hosting costs and domain name purchases. Hosting (which means the server your site is held on) can vary depending on your requirements, a hosting package to hold a simple 8 page HTML site will be different to the hosting package required to handle the back end database of an online store.

D2 Computing Ltd offer our clients a reduced rate hosting package starting from £15.00/year which includes an SQL server database. All our hosting is within a 24/7 monitored secure datacenter.
